Gennady Golovkin says he would have Floyd Mayweather’s measure in the ring

Golovkin thinks he’d be raising his arms after a bout with Mayweather.

FLOYD Mayweather Jr won what was billed as “the Fight of the Century” when he accounted for Manny Pacquiao early last month, but he would be no match for Gennady Golovkin if you were to believe the Kazakh fighter.

When asked on TMZ Hollywood Sports if he would take Mayweather down in a fight, the 33-year-old boldly declared that he would be the only winner if such an event ever unfolded.

“100 per cent. I’m ready for anybody,” said Golovkin.

“It’s my dream fight.

“Of course I’d beat him.”

Triple G as he is known has an unbelievable record in the ring, yet to taste defeat in his 33 professional bouts, the last 20 of which have each ended in knockouts.

He also won the silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and is the reigning WBA and IBO middleweight champion.

Mayweather’s camp wasted little time in rubbishing Golovkin’s claims though, telling TMZSports.com they couldn’t believe he was even on TV.

“Everyone in boxing wants to fight Floyd. It’s the biggest payday they could possibly have.

“[Golovkin] has never fought a top opponent in his whole career ... we’re surprised you guys would even have him on your show to be honest.”

Mayweather himself joined in on the action, saying Triple G wouldn’t stand a chance against him in the ring.

“Congratulations for everything he’s done but even at my weight he can’t beat me,” said Mayweather.

“In his last fight...I don’t know the guy’s name, but if I would have worked with the guy, the guy would have beat him.”

Golovkin defeated Aussie Daniel Geale in July last year to claim the middleweight world title, and is interested in taking on Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto after he also accounted for Geale just over a week ago to claim the WBC middleweight crown.

However, it’s a bold prediction given that Mayweather is also undefeated in his 48 professional fights, 26 of which he’s won by knockout.

The 38-year-old has been world champion across five divisions, having accrued 11 world titles throughout has career.

He also topped Forbes’ sport’s rich list for the second year in a row, with the majority of his $A388 million in earnings over the past 12 months coming from his blockbuster fight with Pacquiao.
