DU First cut-off list touches 100 percent Mark



The fight for a seat at the University of Delhi's undergraduate courses this year has got tougher with cut-offs for all subjects across colleges soaring sky high with some asking for a perfect score.

In the first list released late on Wednesday, the cut-off for BSc (Hons) computer science was set as at 100% at the College of Vocational Studies (CVS) and Indraprastha College for Women (IP) for students who have not studied physics, chemistry and mathematics in Class 12. At, CVS the computer science cut-off ranges from 95 to 100% while at IP College it is between 97 to 100%.

Last week St Stephen's, which follows a different schedule and procedure for admission, had announced its first cut-off list with the highest requirement for English honours at 99%. The cut-off for a seat in the college's English (Hons) class works out to 99% for commerce, 97.75% for science and 97.50% for humanities, the highest for any of the subjects on offer at the college.

For the academic session 2015-16, the university has received 3.7 lakh applications for admissions which will begin on Thursday.

Compared to last year, the increase in cut-offs has been more for science subjects than they have been for commerce and humanities. For popular courses across the board, the minimum cut-off has been set at 90%. In some colleges, like Dyal Singh College in south campus, the cut-off has seen a 12% jump in some courses.
English (Hons)

English (Hons) was the top course for which Delhi University received the maximum number of applications. With 90,331 applications, the cut-off for English is highest at 98.25% for Lady Shri Ram College for Women. It was 97.25% last year.

Hindu College had a cut-off for English at 97-98.5% last year and this year it is lower at 97.5%. Even at Hansraj and Miranda House, the cut-off for English (Hons) is 97.5%.

Though the highest cut-off has not gone up by much, in off campus Bharti College, the lowest percentage for English is at 90%.

While last year the lowest cut-off for English (Hons) was at 85% at Dyal Singh College, this year it is asking for a 96%.

Mathematics (Hons)
This year as many as 66,586 students have applied for 1,993 seats available in mathematics (Hons) across 40 colleges in DU.

Most of the colleges have kept the cut-off for mathematics (Hons), one of the most popular subjects, above 90%. The highest cutoff for mathematics (Hons) this year has seen a jump of 0.50% with Hindu, Kirorimal College and LSR keeping it at 97.5%. Last year the highest cut-off for the course was 97% at these colleges.

The lowest cut-off for the subject is at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, at 87%. Hansraj, IP, Ramjas, Shivaji and Sri Venkateswara have kept it at 97%.
Science courses

This year science courses have seen a jump from 0.25% to 8% across colleges. For the two most popular courses chemistry and physics, most of the colleges have kept the cut-off above 90%.
DU received 62,585 applications for the 13,68 seats available in 24 colleges for physics (Hons) this year.

The highest cut-off for physics is at Hindu College at 98%. Last year, Hindu and Hansraj had the highest cut-off for the subject at 97.33%. This year, Hansraj has kept it same at 97.33% while at Kirori Mal it is at 97% and at LSR 97.25%.

The lowest cut-off for physics is 91% at Swami Shraddhanand.

For chemistry (Hons), the highest cut-off is 97.33% at Hansraj and Hindu College while the lowest is 92% at Rajdhani College. Even last year, Hindu College had the highest cut-off for chemistry (Hons) at 97%.

The course has received 66,987 applications this year for 1,320 seats in 23 DU colleges.

Humanities

Political science and history have had the maximum number of applications this year among the humanities courses.

This year, the highest cut-off for political science is at Lady Shri Ram College at 97.75% and that for history is at Hindu College at 97.75%.
Last year too Hindu College had a higher percentage at 95-98% for history for humanities students and for science students it was 98%. Hindu had the highest cut-off at 95-98% for political science last year too.

There has been an increase in the minimum cut-off percentage this year. Last year, the minimum cut-off for history was at Vivekananda College at 73%, this year it is 75% at Bharti College.

However for political science the minimum cut-off remains same at 75% at Satyawati College.

Commerce



For BCom (Pass), the highest cut-off is at 99% at Maitreyi College this year, while last year it was at 97.25-to 99.75% at Hansraj College.

While for BCom (Honours), this year the highest cut-off is at 98% at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, CVS and LSR. Last year it was 97-99.5% at ARSD college.
